Norton Antivirus

Norton antivirus software is one of the widely used products for detection of viruses and safeguarding of computers. This software has been one of the choices as a solution to viruses infecting the computer system. The software has been upgraded a number of times to be one of the most effective and robust system to detect new viruses and now, they have added onto their features detection of Trojan horses, worms and spyware. The 2008 version of Norton antivirus was rewritten to create a quicker version. Unlike the previous version, the 2008 version enables the opening of several tasks in a single window using the tabs.

The 2008 Norton antivirus version is an answer to attacks by viruses, rootkits, worms and spyware which are detected and blocked automatically. One of its features includes the Rootkit protection which detects and eliminates all sorts of elements posing as a threat to the operating system. It has other features such as detection; blocking and removing virus infected emails and instant messages and, also does a full scanning of the system to enable detection of any threats. The 2008 has been further advanced and they have built a technology to detect dangerous codes before the availability of virus definitions.

It also has the Browser Defender feature which protects the browser from getting affected while downloading files, and ensures safety of all  personal computers which are networked. Norton antivirus has been criticized for poor customer service regarding bugs which does not allow customers to access daily updates by using an error message that says subscriptions are no longer valid. This error has not been rectified completely and is still a major hindrance.

Another area where Norton faces flak is the uninstalling of the software, where the process is not clean. Also there are complaints that the software uses the Internet Explorer’s interface and not the GUI libraries. It is also found to be incompatible with other antivirus software. People who wish to install Norton are advised to uninstall the other antivirus software before installing Norton but this is a major drawback as, the computer is exposed to virus attack without any kind of protection till Norton is installed.
